This is my tribute to the renowned Bartholomew Castles Map of Scotland, that so many first used to hunt castles. My own original copy disintegrated many many years ago through lots of excursions and trips.
Just to mention the ratings as impressive, striking, fair etc only refer to the castle's original architecture and completeness and is not an indication of its value or interest as a visitor attraction. Many fantastic places in the lists may only be rated in the lowest category because there have no vestige of a castle, not because they are not great places to visit.
