Stormont

Ruin or site   NO 190421   OS: 53   PH13 9HR

Possible site of castle or residence, remains of which survived in 1843.
Stormont was a property of the Murrays of Gospertie, one of whom, Sir David, had possibly saved James VI’s life at Perth in the Gowrie Conspiracy at Gowrie House in Perth in 1600. He was made Viscount Stormont in 1621 and his family owned Balvaird Castle. The family became Earls of Mansfield in the 18th century, and still own Scone Palace.

New sixth edition in preparation: more than 1,500 additional sites, hundreds more illustrations, comprehensive online maps and indexes, and much much more.

Due for 2024, and still a huge amount of work to do … more info to follow soon.
